Adobe CS4: Fix! // Licensing for this product has stopped working Error – 150:30

I upgraded to a new Macbook, ran Migration Assistant, then started Photoshop to be greeted with this error. Tried de-activating on my old laptop etc.

Adobe info. The Adobe Licensing Repair Tool doesn’t work on OS X 10.7 Lion or OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Recommendation from forum post:

  1. Download and mount the utility.
  2. Open Terminal, cd to the volume \mac_install_11.6.1 and run sudo ./install_fnp.sh

Download links to Adobe trials: CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6 if clean reinstalling.

Update 1: Yes I upgraded to CS6 now Retina support is available and use CC at work.. Thanks Adobe.

Update 2: macOS Sierra CS6 refer to Adobe instructions.

  1. Please help me. I have the same problem – I’m on Mac 10.8.3 and can’t get the License Recovery app to run. Can you give me step by step instructions? I downloaded the License Recovery utility, double-clicked on the .dmg, and it looks like it’s mounted. I’m confused by: Open Terminal, cd to the volume \mac_install_11.6.1 and run sudo ./install_fnp.sh. I know how to open Terminal, but I’m not sure what to type in after I get my Terminal window.

  2. Hi Marsha,
    Ok hope this helps:
    1. Open the utility in Finder.
    2. Navigate through to the mac_install_11.6.1 folder
    3. Open Terminal and type “cd ” and then drag the “mac_install_11.6.1” folder on to the Terminal window to get the path. Note: there is a space after the cd — see example below
    cd /Volumes/LicenseRecovery\ 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/mac_install_11.6.1
    4. Press Enter
    5. Type “sudo ./install_fnp.sh” and press Enter
See Apple info about sudo and passwords.

  3. I can’t get this to run on OS X 10.9. The error message for launching the recovery says: You can’t open the application “LicenseRecoveryLauncher” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What can do now?

  4. This worked great and helped me avoid having to reinstall the software after a migration – thank you so much.

  5. Thanks Tim for the detailed instructions 🙂 I have never opened or use Terminal before this and the instructions were very clear and helpful. I am using a OSX Version 10.9, I didn’t find my “mac_install_11.6.1” folder in Utility but instead in my “Finder” window, on the left column under devices there was “LicenseRecovery 11.6.1” disk -> “LicenseRecovery” folder -> mac_install_11.6.1″ folder

  6. I still can’t get this to work. I get a “no such file” in Terminal and even if I type the “sudo” command, it asks for a password. Is there a password that I should be using. I tried the password to my computer but nothing happens. Anyone have any answers. Also I’m working on 10.9.1.

  7. For those of you who have had trouble changing the directory in Terminal (such as myself) Here’s my work around –
Mount the .dmg and navigate to the ‘mac_install_11.6.1’ folder and open. Then drag the contents of this folder (‘install_fnp.sh’ and the ‘FNPLicensingService folder’) straight into your home directory. Open terminal and just type “sudo ./install_fnp.sh” press enter and enter your password. This way you won’t need to change the directory in Terminal

    Cam 🙂

  8. @joe the password you are being asked for is the administrators password. this cannot be blank or ‘space’ for when you are using the sudo command. you need to give the admin account a password – you can always remove it after. hope this helps

  9. Thanks so much, Tim. It worked like a charm, after much frustration in attempting to deal with Adobe directly.

  10. Hi Tim

In making a clean jump from Mac OS 10.8.6 all the way to 10.9.2, it’s no surprise I’m having an issue with Adobe.

Following instructions given to Marsh above, I get the following when I
    get to the Terminal stage.

    cd/Volumes/LicenseRecovery\ 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/mac_install_11.6.1
-bash: cd/Volumes/LicenseRecovery 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/mac_install_11.6.1: No such file or directory

When in fact I have downloaded the LR > but have not succeeded in getting it to mount.

  11. Hi Joe Q: double click the downloaded LicenseRecovery111.dmg file to mount it.

  12. Tim

Ok. That’s fine. The problem now is after following instructions as above, I get stuck when Terminal prompts my password. I try to type the password but nothing happens.

  13. Just did this on 10.9.2 and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the tip.

One thing to note, be sure that you type a space after “cd” in Terminal before dragging in the mac_install folder. I didn’t do that at first, and got the “no such file” error. After I added the space, it all worked as expected.

  14. Tim,

Your detailed steps for Marsha worked on my new iMac OSX 10.9.2 . Thank you ever so much. Adobe should not lie, as technical told me that the (150:30) code meant that the product was no longer compatible. Thank you again!

  15. Tim,
Thanks a lot for this. I’m having the same problem as Joe in not being able to type my password.

  16. Thank you Tim! this post made my day! no way to solve the problem till I read your instruction. I followed the added instructions you wrote for Marsha and my CS4 was born again!
First time I entered my password on Terminal it seems it doesn’t work: made it again and everything ran ok!
    G R E A T ! ! !

  17. I just replaced the hard drive in my macbook pro. used my time capsule back up to restore everything and it appeared to work fin, except when I tried to open any go the CS 4 apps. I am on 10.10.1
    Any suggestions??
    Thxs

  18. After having purchased a new Imac with 10.10.3 the licence for CS4 stopped working. I tried everything else before ending up trying this method.
    Try the following:

    Download “Licence Recovery 11.6.1”.
Open it and leave it open. (There are 7 files inside)
    Open Terminal and start typing:
    Type “sudo python “
Note: There is a space following “python”. Do not press Return.
Drag the LicenseRecover.py file from the LicenseRecovery 11.6.1 window onto the Terminal Window and press Return. Note: Make sure that the Terminal window has the command and the path to the APP file. For example: “sudo python /Volumes/LicenseRecovery\ 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/LicenseRecover.py”
Enter your administrator user name and password when prompted and click OK.
Follow the onscreen (terminal) instructions carefully.
    Voila!

  19. This worked perfectly. I saw in some comments people had trouble and I got the same problem with not finding the file but it’s because the Terminal had already changed drives and I just didn’t understand how it works. All I really had to do next was to type in the command properly next. Also, if you don’t leave a space after the word sudo it doesn’t work, so pay particular attention to your typing. Thanks for saving me a lot of grief.
